Security Guard Charged with Stealing GH¢200k from Employer

A 23-year-old security guard, Abraham Quaye, has been remanded by the Amasaman Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH¢200,000 from his employer.

Quaye pleaded not guilty to the charge before Mrs Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, the relieving judge.

According to Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru, the complainant, Francis Yeboah, is a District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana and owner of Nzema Guest House at Ayawaso, where Quaye worked as a security guard.

Yeboah had received GH¢450,000 from the Ghana Police Administration to secure ECG metres for a building construction company at Kwabenya, which he kept in a white polythene bag in his car.

After asking Quaye to wash the car the following morning, Yeboah discovered a shortage of GH¢200,000 when he went to make payment for the metres.

Quaye denied knowledge of the missing money, but Yeboah later observed changes in Quaye’s lifestyle, including purchases beyond his income, leading to a formal complaint at the Pokuase Police Station on December 13, 2025.

A search conducted on Quaye revealed GH¢164,000 in his bag, which was handed over to the complainant.

During investigations, Quaye admitted to taking the money and using part of it to purchase items valued at GH¢9,010, including an iPhone 13 and other goods, and giving GH¢1,200 to his sister and GH¢200 each to his stepmother, mother, and father.
