Police Arrest 13 in Senya Beraku Crime Crackdown

The Central East Regional Police Command has apprehended 13 individuals in a series of coordinated raids across the Senya Beraku area of the Central Region, as part of a broader effort to tackle rising criminal activity.

The operation, which unfolded on Tuesday, December 17, 2025, commenced in the coastal community of Kukwado, resulting in the arrest of six suspects found with substances believed to be Indian hemp and related paraphernalia.

Following the initial arrests, the police team proceeded to a yellow house situated near a cemetery within the enclave. There, they arrested four more suspects, including a female.

A search of the property yielded a significant haul, including dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, locally brewed gin – commonly known as akpeteshie or ‘laka’ – a 32-inch television set, and a variety of cigarette brands.

The final phase of the operation took place in Awiaso, where three additional suspects, also including a female, were taken into custody. Authorities recovered more suspected Indian hemp, a toy gun, shisha smoking devices, local gin, and a game pot. The police subsequently set the hideout ablaze.

Those arrested include Michael Essel, 23; Frederick Koranteng, 23; James Essel, 24; Jones Koranteng, 20; Daniel Essibu, 30; Kofi Abbiw, 28; Kofi Essibu, 57; Klotey Poree, 26; Bismark Sarbeng, 26; Kojo Otoo, 24; Thomas Quartey, 22; Gladys Jackson, 19; and Florence Adenue, 25.

“All suspects and the recovered items are currently in police custody and are assisting with our investigations,” a police spokesperson stated.

The Central East Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to intensifying intelligence-led policing to effectively combat crime and safeguard the well-being of residents in the region.
