Rev Daniel Annan Redefines Masculinity Beyond Money and Power

Resident Pastor of Universal Gospel Centre, Rev Daniel Annan, has ignited a debate after suggesting that money, power, and sex are essential for men to express their true masculinity. The comments were made during an appearance on Joy Prime’s ‘Let’s Talk’ show, hosted by Aseiduwaa.

The conversation centred on the emotional challenges faced by men, including navigating grief over the loss of extramarital relationships without the knowledge of their wives.

Rev Annan argued that societal expectations demand men consistently present a strong facade, regardless of personal circumstances. “A real man shows up irrespective of the circumstance. Men marry a woman as a wife by profession, but the reality of the wife is often the side chick,” he stated.

He further explained that a man’s strength and resilience are intrinsically linked to his access to financial resources, influence, and sexual fulfillment, claiming these elements allow for the demonstration of authentic masculinity.

The pastor also touched on the emotional complexities within marriage, suggesting that some men harbour deeper affections for their extramarital partners. “Some men may cherish their wives deeply, but deep down, they love their side chicks more,” he said.

According to Rev Annan, this internal conflict often stems from the belief that many men end up marrying the “wrong” women, a situation he described as “transactional” or “coincidental.” He attributed these marriages to societal pressures, parental influence, and even religious involvement, suggesting that many unions are formed based on external factors rather than genuine emotional compatibility.

The discussion on ‘Let’s Talk’ underscored the need for a more nuanced understanding of men’s emotional lives, particularly within a society that often imposes rigid expectations of masculinity.
