Ghana Water Limited Inaugurates G-Water Bottling Board to Drive Commercial Growth

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has inaugurated the Board of Directors of G-Water Bottling Limited, a subsidiary tasked with transforming the company into one of the country’s most recognised and commercially competitive bottled water brands. The move signals GWL’s intent to diversify its revenue streams and move beyond its traditional role of water production and distribution.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Accra, brought together senior officials of Ghana Water Limited and the newly appointed board members. Chairman of the GWL Board of Directors, Eric J. Biliguo Adama, described the bottled water venture as a cornerstone of the organisation’s long-term growth strategy.

“G-Water Bottling Limited represents an important pillar in the company’s long-term growth strategy,” Mr Adama said, noting that while the G-Water brand had already gained public acceptance for its quality and purity, it had not yet fully realised its commercial potential due to limited market penetration.

G-Water Bottling Limited was established as a subsidiary of GWL to manufacture, package and distribute safe, high-quality drinking water on sound commercial principles. The subsidiary operates in a fiercely competitive market, with dozens of established local and international brands vying for consumer loyalty across Ghana.

The inauguration comes as Ghana Water Limited continues its broader restructuring efforts. The company recently inaugurated a Governing Council for the Ghana Water Institute, a subsidiary charged with building technical capacity and professionalising the water sector.

Managing Director Adam Mutawakilu said the bottling subsidiary would enable GWL to leverage its expertise in water production and quality assurance to compete more effectively in the commercial water market. He added that the venture is expected to generate additional revenue, create employment and strengthen the Ghana Water brand while contributing to national economic development.

The newly inaugurated board is chaired by Agbesi Nutsu, with Dr Hadisu Alhasan serving as Executive Director. Other members include Sulemana Alhassan Alancash and Joseph Zefo Kero as Non-Executive Directors, while Innocentia Kuupiel serves as Chief Executive Officer.

On behalf of the board, Mr Nutsu pledged to provide strategic leadership and effective oversight to ensure the growth, sustainability and long-term success of the company.

Ghana’s bottled water industry has grown significantly over the past decade, driven by rising urbanisation, concerns about water quality and a growing middle class. For GWL, the commercial venture represents an opportunity to capitalise on its brand recognition and decades of water treatment expertise to carve out a meaningful share of that market.

The success of the subsidiary will depend on the board’s ability to navigate pricing pressures, distribution challenges and consumer expectations in a market where brand loyalty can be difficult to build. With the right investment and strategy, however, G-Water could become a significant revenue stream for Ghana Water Limited.
