Ghana is set to export English teachers to Colombia, a move aimed at bolstering educational and cultural ties between the two nations.
Vice President Dr. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang announced the plan during a courtesy call at the Jubilee House by Colombian Vice President Francia Elena Márquez Mina, who is on a three-day working visit to Ghana.
Dr. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the success of the existing program where Colombian instructors teach Spanish in Ghana, noting its positive impact on language learning and cultural exchange.
“Ghana particularly values Colombia’s enduring support for Spanish teaching in our schools. I was asking that we expand that path to send teachers of English from Ghana to Colombia too,” she stated.
The two Vice Presidents also discussed broader collaboration areas, including immigration, agriculture, political consultations, air services, education, technical cooperation, sports, and youth development. Dr. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the importance of strengthening these existing frameworks.
Opportunities for increased economic and cultural cooperation, particularly in trade, tourism, and the creative industries, were also on the agenda. Dr. Opoku-Agyemang explained that Colombia’s expertise in biodiversity-driven innovation and agroprocessing complements Ghana’s growing markets in agriculture, energy, and services.
Furthermore, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) hosted a business seminar for the Colombian delegation, seeking to attract investment and deepen commercial relations.
This initiative signals a commitment to mutual benefit and a strengthening of the Ghana-Colombia partnership on multiple fronts.
