Cassona Healthcare is reaffirming its commitment to transforming healthcare infrastructure across the ECOWAS region with the development of modern hospitals, advanced medical diagnostic imaging equipment, and state-of-the-art laboratories.
The company’s dedication extends to structured knowledge transfer programs, ensuring the sustainability of these facilities through training for local biomedical engineers. This allows for effective skill-sharing between expatriate specialists and Ghanaian doctors, physicians, and nurses.
Chief Executive Officer of Cassona Healthcare, John Chigbu, welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s recent call for stronger Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to revitalise Ghana’s healthcare system. “It is encouraging to hear the President’s vision,” Mr. Chigbu stated.
He added that Cassona strongly aligns with the President’s acknowledgement of the need for private sector involvement to deliver cost-effective and sustainable healthcare solutions to Ghanaians.
Cassona has already submitted comprehensive proposals to several ECOWAS stakeholders, including governments in Lagos, Niger, Kaduna states in Nigeria, as well as Benin and Senegal. The company believes these proposals directly address President Mahama’s concerns about equipping hospitals nationwide while easing the burden on public finances through PPPs.
Since 2022, Cassona has transitioned from a medical equipment supplier to a comprehensive healthcare solutions partner. The company now offers end-to-end services, including hospital design and construction, equipment supply, maintenance, training, and financing.
A core aspect of Cassona’s approach is knowledge transfer, empowering local healthcare professionals. The company also provides flexible credit-financing options, often more competitive than traditional banking institutions, to ensure accessibility and long-term viability.
Mr. Chigbu emphasized the benefits of professional hospital management, shifting from clinician-led administration to a commercially disciplined model. “This ensures hospitals, whether public or private, operate as financially sustainable institutions,” he explained.
He further noted that such management improves accountability, efficiency, and transparency in revenue streams, allowing for high-quality, patient-focused care. Mr. Chigbu described President Mahama’s vision as “refreshing and forward-looking” in its recognition of this philosophy.
Driven by a personal commitment stemming from his Nigerian-Ghanaian heritage, Mr. Chigbu aims to build sustainable healthcare systems across West Africa. He highlighted the need to reverse the brain drain of medical professionals and reduce the billions of dollars spent on medical tourism annually.
“Cassona is eager to collaborate with all ECOWAS governments – both Francophone and Anglophone – to achieve this,” Mr. Chigbu said. “We are confident in the region’s future and leveraging our experience to make a real difference.”
To date, Cassona has installed over 200 diagnostic imaging systems throughout ECOWAS. The company currently employs over 50 local professionals in Accra, Ghana, and plans to expand its workforce by at least 50 in Lagos and Dakar by 2026, establishing a regional hub in Senegal.
“Cassona is built to serve the 400 million people of ECOWAS, who have long been underserved by the global healthcare industry,” Mr. Chigbu concluded. “We are committed to creating economic opportunities, reinvesting in local communities, and contributing to the sustainable development of our region.”
