The government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to enhance environmental cleanliness, climate resilience, innovation, and sustainable job creation across the nation.
Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Ibrahim Ahmed, announced the government’s readiness on Friday, December 12, during the climax of the Jospong Annual Thanksgiving Service 2025, held at the company’s head office in Adjirigarnor, Accra.
“The government is ready to deepen its partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and, by extension, the Jospong Group’s subsidiaries to drive a Ghana where cleanliness, resilience and innovation and job creation become everyday realities and not a distant aspiration,” Mr. Ibrahim declared.
He emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, noting Zoomlion’s vital role in achieving key national objectives, including improved local services, sustainable youth employment, environmental health, strengthened decentralization, and overall sustainable development.
The Minister highlighted the critical contribution of the private sector, particularly in environmental sanitation and waste management, to national progress. He framed Zoomlion and the Jospong Group’s growth within a historical context, comparing it to pivotal moments in Ghana’s history.
“The first wave was Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s liberation efforts across the continent. The second wave was when the Ghanaian Black Stars conquered African football, and the third wave is Zoomlion’s expansion across Africa, which has become another historic symbol of Ghana’s global influence,” he noted.
Mr. Ibrahim pointed to the existing public-private partnership as a resounding success, citing recognition from South Korea during a sanitation benchmarking trip. “Only two African countries impressed the Koreans: Ghana and Morocco,” he revealed.
This positive assessment, he explained, was largely due to the “36 completed composting, recycling, and waste treatment plants, the largest sanitation infrastructure in West Africa,” developed through the collaboration with Zoomlion.
He further stated that Zoomlion’s infrastructure was instrumental in the United Nations designating Ghana as the “Sanitation and Waste Management Hub for West Africa” in 2025.
Tracing the Group’s origins, the Minister acknowledged its remarkable journey “from a small office at Jamestown” to a diversified conglomerate with 78 subsidiaries operating in over 24 African countries.
“Tell me, which other Ghanaian company commands a presence in 25 African countries? None,” he stated, describing the achievement as “historical, inspirational, and a testament to Ghanaian excellence.”
He underscored Zoomlion’s indispensability, stating, “As a nation, we cannot discuss environmental sanitation, waste management, public health, the green economy or modern local governance without acknowledging the remarkable contribution of the Jospong Group and Zoomlion.”
The government’s pledge echoes the sentiments expressed by Jospong Group Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, who attributed the company’s success to both divine guidance and consistent government support.
In his welcome address, Dr. Siaw Agyepong reflected on the Group’s evolution from a single printing press to a multinational industrial leader, attributing this growth to “divine providence and consistent national support.” He stated, “Thus far has the Lord helped us.”
He highlighted Zoomlion’s extensive operations, noting the company now operates “36 functional plants spanning solid waste, liquid waste and medical waste treatment”, positioning Ghana as “a centre of industrial excellence on the African continent”.
The Group’s footprint, which began with the Jospong Printing Press in Jamestown in 1995, now extends across “more than 25 African countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, The Gambia and Gabon and many more.”
Dr. Siaw Agyepong expressed gratitude to past and present leaders, including the late Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and Prof. John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and First Lady Lordina Mahama, for their unwavering support. He fondly recalled his initial meeting with President Kufuor, admitting, “I was frightened.”
He concluded that the company’s success is a “manifestation of divine covenant, revelation and mystery”, a national testament to the possibilities unlocked by vision and enablement.
