Politics

Organisers of the annual Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament have presented a customised set of golf equipment to President John Dramani Mahama, in a ceremony that underscores the event’s growing stature as a convergence point for sport, diplomacy and corporate networking in Ghana.

The presentation was made during a courtesy call on the President by the leadership of the Head of State Golf Incorporated, led by Francis Andoh and including planning committee members Nana Antwi Darkwah, Michael Aggrey and Maud Akosiwa Agbolete. The 2026 edition of the tournament is scheduled for November 28.

A Symbolic and Strategic Gesture

The customised golf set, specially designed for President Mahama, serves as both a personal gift and a symbol of the partnership between the Presidency and the tournament organisers. During the visit, the committee briefed the President on preparations for the upcoming edition and reaffirmed their commitment to using the event to promote golf, tourism and business networking.

President Mahama commended the organisers for sustaining a competition that continues to elevate Ghana’s profile on the international golfing stage. He acknowledged the role that sports — particularly golf — can play in strengthening relationships among corporate leaders, diplomats and sporting enthusiasts.

More Than a Game

The Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament has evolved into one of Ghana’s most prominent sporting-social events, attracting golfers, business executives and diplomats from across the world. Its positioning at the intersection of sport and high-level networking gives it a character distinct from conventional tournaments, with the implicit endorsement of the sitting president lending the event significant prestige.

The planning committee has promised an exciting and impactful edition for 2026, with expectations that this year’s tournament will draw an even broader international field. For Ghana, the event represents an opportunity to showcase its hospitality infrastructure and sporting culture to a global audience — objectives that align with the country’s broader push to attract investment and tourism.
