Sports

Accra Hearts of Oak fell to a 2-0 defeat at Karela United on Sunday, slipping to seventh place in the Ghana Premier League.

Eric Konadu Antwi struck a first‑half brace, scoring in the 12th and 34th minutes to give the newly promoted side a comfortable lead. Karela United held firm in the second half, denying the Phobians any chance of a comeback.

The loss marks Hearts’ second setback in a week. On Wednesday they were shocked 1‑0 at home by True Life Academy, the youth side of Division One club Port City FC.

Following the two defeats, Hearts have dropped from sixth to seventh on the table with twenty‑one points, now five points behind league leaders Medea SC.

Karela United, meanwhile, have climbed to eighth after winning two of their last three matches, sitting on twenty points.

Hearts coach Samuel Boadu, speaking after the match, lamented the team’s lack of composure. \”We did not execute our game plan and the players lost focus in the second half,\” Boadu said.

Karela United manager Kwabena Tetteh praised his side’s discipline. \”The lads stayed organized and took their chances early, which made the difference,\” Tetteh explained.

Both clubs look ahead to their next fixtures, with Hearts hoping to halt their slide and Karela United aiming to keep their momentum.
