An extraordinary outpouring of grief and solidarity swept through the Green Flavour Events Centre at Community 9 in Tema on Saturday evening, as hundreds of Ghana’s most prominent entertainment figures converged for a one-week remembrance vigil in honour of the late actress and entrepreneur Beverly Ama Afaglo-Baah.

The actress, who passed away on May 24, 2026, at the age of 42, left behind a legacy that helped define the golden era of modern Ghanaian cinema. Her sudden death plunged the creative arts industry into a period of deep mourning, and Saturday’s vigil offered a communal space for colleagues, friends, and admirers to process their collective loss.

The Green Flavour Events Centre was draped in black and red as an unprecedented constellation of screen icons and musicians arrived to pay their respects. Among those present were John Dumelo, Selassie Ibrahim, Nikki Samonas, Gloria Osei Sarfo, Vivian Jill Lawrence, Roselyn Ngissah, Portia Asare, Pascal Amanfo, Salinko, Joselyn Dumas, Vicky Zugah, Kalybos, Eunice Banini, Salma Mumin, Empress Gifty Adorye, and Nana Boroo. They stood in solidarity with Beverly’s husband, Eugene Baah, widely known as Choirmaster of the music group Praye.

The four-hour commemoration was structured around a deeply spiritual programme that balanced solemnity with celebration. The evening opened with localised worship and praise sessions, followed by scripture readings, pastoral sermons, and musical interludes that reflected the breadth of Beverly’s artistic influence.

The most emotionally charged moment came during the testimonial session when Beverly’s brother, Caleb Afaglo, addressed the gathering on behalf of the biological family. His moving tribute left many attendees in visible distress, offering a rare and intimate account of his sister’s final medical struggles and spiritual resilience.

“She was a woman of faith. She was tired of the poking in her arms, legs and hands and strongly believed that God was going to give her peace,” Caleb told the congregation, fighting back tears as he spoke of her unwavering belief despite the physical toll of continuous medical interventions.

As darkness descended, the vigil reached its dramatic climax. The entire congregation moved to the open grounds for a symbolic torchlighting ceremony, the flames flickering against the night sky as a tribute to Beverly’s enduring light. This was immediately followed by the synchronised release of hundreds of white and red balloons, symbolising the release of her soul to eternity.

Beyond her celebrated acting career, Beverly Afaglo-Baah was known as a beauty entrepreneur and a vocal advocate for mental health awareness within the entertainment industry. She was also remembered for her resilience after losing her home to a fire, a setback she publicly discussed as a catalyst for pursuing her business ventures, including her “Traffic Shawarma” enterprise.

The family has formally announced that the final funeral rites and state-assisted burial will take place on August 7, 2026, with further logistical details to be communicated in due course.
