Victor Adawudu Calls for Sanctions to Restore Parliament Order

Politics

Member of Parliament and key figure within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, is advocating for stringent penalties against MPs involved in disorderly conduct, asserting that recurrent chaos is eroding the legislature’s authority.

The call follows a tumultuous scene in Parliament on Tuesday, where Minority Caucus members vacated their seats and converged in the chamber’s centre, leading to a brief confrontation and a suspension of proceedings.

The uproar stemmed from disagreements surrounding the declaration of the Kpandai parliamentary seat as vacant – a decision the Minority contends is both unlawful and procedurally flawed.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile program this Saturday, Mr. Adawudu stressed the need for Parliament to act decisively in disciplining its members who disregard its established rules.

“There should be some form of punishment or sanctions, because it is becoming too much,” he stated. “We have seen this in our Parliament, and if Members of Parliament are sanctioned for displaying some unparliamentary behaviour, I believe that this will come to an end.”

Mr. Adawudu further emphasized the pivotal role of Parliament as the nation’s foremost law-making body, arguing that maintaining discipline and decorum is essential for preserving public trust and the institution’s credibility.

He believes that the forceful application of sanctions would effectively restore order and strengthen respect for parliamentary authority.
