Medeama’s midfielder Salim Adams scored a late winner on Sunday, lifting the club to the top of the Ghana Premier League.

The 18‑year‑old struck from just outside the penalty area to secure a 2‑1 victory over Berekum Chelsea, ending a three‑match winless streak and sparking a surge in points.

Adams has now featured in ten consecutive league games, starting eight of them – the first stretch of regular minutes he has enjoyed in three years.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side plays a possession‑obsessed brand of football, favouring short passing and tight spacing on the compact Tarkwa and Abooso Park pitches. The reduced dimensions limit the ground Adams must cover, giving him better protection when he loses the ball.

“He has grown with the system and embraces the quick, short‑range play we demand,” Tanko said after the match.

The smaller field has forced Adams to adapt his game. He now links quickly with Prince Owusu, whose runs are often within arm’s length, and creates diagonal openings for teammates such as Kelvin Nkrumah and Derrick Fordjuor.

Chief Executive James Essilfie added, “We believed in his potential even at his lowest point, and his willingness to take calculated risks is paying dividends for the team.”

By venturing forward at a critical moment, Adams left a defensive gap that could have invited a counter‑attack, but his shot proved decisive. The win lifted Medeama back to the league summit, marking two wins and two draws in their last four fixtures.

While he is still a work in progress, Adams is now positioned where the coaching staff expect him to thrive, and supporters are eager to see whether he can fulfill the promise of becoming the club’s next midfield prince.
