Trump to announce $12 billion aid package for U.S. farmers

International

President Donald Trump will unveil a $12 billion farm aid package on Monday, aimed at American growers hit by low crop prices and tariff pressures, Bloomberg reports.

The announcement is set to take place at a farm‑focused event in Washington, D.C., where President Trump will be joined by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.

Growers of cattle, grains, soybeans, cotton and potatoes are expected to attend, according to the White House official cited by Bloomberg.

While the aid targets U.S. producers, Ghanaian farmers and agribusinesses are watching closely. Analysts note that the U.S. stimulus could shift export dynamics, potentially affecting Ghana’s cotton and soybean markets.

“Any change in U.S. farm subsidies can reverberate across global commodity prices,” said Kwame Agyemang, senior analyst at Ghana Investment Promotion Centre. He added that local producers may see price adjustments in the coming months.

Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture has not issued an official comment yet, but it is preparing contingency plans to protect local growers from any adverse price movements.

Reuters could not immediately verify the Bloomberg report, and the details of the package remain subject to final congressional approval.

The forthcoming aid underscores the U.S. government’s effort to stabilise its agricultural sector, a move that could have ripple effects on global food security, including in Ghana.
