The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced the immediate promotion of five police officers whose swift tactical response ended a violent armed robbery at a GOIL Filling Station in the Eastern Region.
The officers were decorated at a brief ceremony held at Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, following their operation that neutralised a dangerous criminal cell operating along the Nsawam-Suhum highway.
The five officers recognised for their bravery are Chief Inspector Eric Otoo, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Otu, General Sergeant Philip Amoah, Policewoman Constable Victoria Asiedu, and Policewoman Constable Rosemond A. Frimpong.
The promotions stem from a violent robbery at the GOIL Filling Station in Kwafokrom, a busy transit community near Nsawam. According to police situational briefs, the armed men stormed the fuel station under cover of darkness, terrorising pump attendants, locking up staff members, and making off with the day’s sales proceeds.
A distress call to local police triggered a rapid deployment. The five officers responded with what police officials described as maximum tactical precision, rushing to the scene and engaging the criminals directly.
Their swift action completely overwhelmed the gang, preventing what could have been a far more dangerous situation. Two principal suspects were arrested on the spot and remain in custody at the Eastern Regional Police Command, where they are assisting detectives with forensic enquiries aimed at tracking down fleeing accomplices and recovering the weapons used during the raid.
In recognition of their valour, the Police Administration, through the Police Management Board (POMAB), approved an immediate reward package designed to boost morale across the service and set a precedent for recognising outstanding duty.
Chief Inspector Eric Otoo has been granted direct, examination-free entry into the Police Academy to prepare for commissioning into the senior officer corps. Chief Inspector Emmanuel Otu has similarly received direct admission to the Academy for officer training.
General Sergeant Philip Amoah has been promoted to the rank of General Inspector with immediate effect. Policewoman Constable Victoria Asiedu has been elevated to Lance Corporal, while Policewoman Constable Rosemond A. Frimpong has also been promoted to her next rank within the junior operational wing.
The IGP and POMAB members personally commended the five officers for their commitment to duty and willingness to risk their lives in the line of service. The police leadership used the occasion to send a clear warning to criminal syndicates operating across the country.
The Police Administration assured the public of its continued resolve to aggressively combat violent crime, dismantle armed robbery networks, and protect life and property across all sixteen regions.
The promotions come at a time when public confidence in law enforcement remains a critical concern, and the Police Administration appears determined to use the Kwafokrom success story as a model for how rapid, professional policing can deliver results on the ground. The arrested suspects remain in strict custody as detectives work to track down their fleeing accomplices and retrieve the operational weapons used during the raid.
