Accra – The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the School Feeding Programme delivers on its promise to boost enrolment, retention, and learning outcomes nationwide. She made the remarks on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during a joint monitoring visit with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender, Children and Social Welfare to Ayi Mensah Basic School in the Greater Accra Region and Peduase Methodist Basic School in the Eastern Region.

The visit aimed to verify reports from the field and engage directly with pupils benefitting from the programme. According to Dr Lartey, consistent monitoring is crucial for identifying challenges and enhancing the nutritional value and quality of meals provided.

“Regular monitoring allows government to identify challenges, gather feedback and improve the quality and nutritional value of meals served to children,” Dr Lartey stated.

Addressing pupils at both schools, the Gender Minister encouraged them to prioritize their education, emphasizing the role of the School Feeding Programme in supporting their academic journey. She highlighted the programme’s potential to keep more children in school and improve their performance.

Dominic Ayine, a member of the Committee and the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, also interacted with the pupils. He urged them to appreciate the support offered through the School Feeding Programme while assuring them of the government’s dedication to improving school infrastructure.

“The government remains committed to upgrading school infrastructure to support effective teaching and learning,” Ayine said.

Dr Lartey further revealed that the Ministry is integrating basic table manners and hygiene education into the School Feeding Programme, aiming to inculcate positive habits in young learners. She added that the consistent monitoring efforts by the Ministry, national and regional coordinators, and district focal persons have significantly improved the programme’s performance.

The Committee expressed overall satisfaction with the meal quality and praised the successful collaboration between caterers, head teachers, and various government stakeholders. They believe ongoing monitoring will ensure continued success and positive results for beneficiaries across the country.
