Dr. Edward Omane Boamah Funeral Set for December 13

Ghana will on Saturday, December 13, 2025, hold a state funeral for former Minister for Defence and Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

The funeral rites will be held at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua, commencing at 12:00 noon, the Presidency has announced.

A large turnout is anticipated, with family, government officials, NDC executives, state dignitaries, and members of the public expected to pay their final respects to the respected statesman.

Dr. Boamah tragically passed away on August 6, 2025, in a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of all eight individuals on board. The accident involved a Harbin Z-9EH aircraft, with tail number GHF 631, operated by the Ghana Air Force.

Among those also lost in the crash were Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed Limuna; NDC Vice-Chair, Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Dr. Boamah’s death has been widely mourned as a significant national loss, recognizing his dedicated service to the country and prominent role in public life. Further details regarding the funeral arrangements are expected to be released by the family and the Presidency.
