OmniBSIC Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to community healthcare by officially adopting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Shai Osudoku District Hospital. The bank donated vital, specialized equipment to bolster critical care for premature and vulnerable newborns.

The initiative was unveiled during the hospital’s World Prematurity Awareness Day celebrations, held under the theme “Equitable Care for Every Preterm Baby.” OmniBSIC Bank’s support underscores its dedication to being “Not Just Another Bank,” officials say.

A delegation from OmniBSIC, led by Group Head of General Operations, Mr. Dominic Donkoh, representing Managing Director Mr. Daniel Asiedu, attended the ceremony alongside hospital administrators, clinical staff, and community leaders. Mr. Donkoh emphasized the bank’s long-term commitment to national development and tangible community impact.

“This is not merely a ceremonial gesture but a deliberate investment in the health and survival of Ghanaian newborns,” he stated. “We are here because this hospital has demonstrated excellence and accountability, and we believe our support can help make an even greater difference.” He added that OmniBSIC Bank prioritizes supporting institutions that deliver measurable results, citing the Shai Osudoku District Hospital’s commendable performance.

The hospital has made substantial strides in neonatal and maternal care, reducing NICU mortality from 7% in 2022 to 3.4% in 2024, despite a rise in admissions from 721 to 878 during the same period. The facility provides care for complex conditions including prematurity, neonatal jaundice, sepsis, congenital abnormalities, and meconium aspiration.

The donated equipment includes baby cots, baby incubators, a Firefly phototherapy machine, radiant warmers, transcutaneous bilirubinometers, haemoglobinometers with strips, a vein viewer, pulse oximeters, and sterilizers with timers.

Acting Medical Superintendent, Mr. Alexander Adjei, described the intervention as crucial. “This donation has arrived at the perfect time and will significantly enhance our ability to care for preterm babies,” he said. “OmniBSIC Bank responded swiftly to our call for support, and we deeply appreciate their commitment.”

Mrs. Akyaa Afreh Arhin Addo Kufuor, Group Head of Legal and Recoveries & Company Secretary, also present at the ceremony, affirmed the bank’s pledge to sustain the partnership. “This is only the beginning. We intend to work closely with the hospital to ensure the NICU remains adequately resourced and capable of delivering world-class care,” she added.

Following the adoption and donation, OmniBSIC Bank staff also conducted a financial literacy outreach at the Shai Osudoku Market. The session focused on practical financial management for market women, especially mothers, covering topics like separating business and personal finances, safeguarding capital, record-keeping, and safe cash handling.

Naa Ayeki Tsui III, Market Queen of the Osudoku market, commended OmniBSIC Bank for supporting both healthcare and women’s economic empowerment. “This intervention touches the heart of our community. You are not only saving lives but strengthening families, and for that, we are grateful,” she noted.

OmniBSIC Bank’s CSR initiative aligns with Ghana’s Sustainable Principles 3, 4, and 5 – promoting good governance, ethical standards, gender equity, and financial inclusion – and UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 17.
