The University of Mines and Technology has conferred honorary doctorate degrees on three individuals in recognition of their contributions to education, mining, entrepreneurship and national development, a tradition the institution uses to highlight the link between academic excellence and industry leadership.

The awards were presented during UMaT’s 2026 Mini Congregation ceremony held in Tarkwa, where Emmanuel Kweku Bedai, Joseph Titus-Glover and Alfred Kwame Mawunyo Baku were honoured for their service and impact in their respective fields.

Mr. Bedai was recognised for his significant contributions to university administration and the advancement of higher education in Ghana. Mr. Baku was honoured for his role in the growth and development of the country’s mining industry and his broader contribution to national development.

Dr. Joseph Titus-Glover, Chief Executive Officer of Quantum LC Ltd, received an Honorary Doctorate in Science for his leadership, innovation and contribution to the mining industry, entrepreneurship and engineering education. The recognition marks a significant milestone for both Dr. Titus-Glover and the Quantum LC Ltd team, who joined in celebrating the honour.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Titus-Glover reaffirmed the commitment of Quantum LC Ltd and WBHO-Quantum LC to supporting UMaT and its students. He stressed the importance of strengthening the relationship between industry and academia, particularly in developing the next generation of skilled professionals for Ghana’s mining and engineering sectors.

Quantum LC Ltd described the award as a proud moment reflecting years of hard work, vision and impact within the mining sector and across the African business landscape. The company praised Dr. Titus-Glover’s leadership, describing him as an inspiring figure whose passion continues to drive growth and excellence.

UMaT said the decision to confer the honorary degrees reflects the university’s commitment to celebrating leadership, innovation and service to society, particularly individuals whose work has contributed meaningfully to Ghana’s development. The institution, based in the mineral-rich Western Region, has long positioned itself as a bridge between academic training and the practical demands of the extractive industries.

The ceremony underscored the importance of collaboration between academia, industry and national progress, with the honorees serving as examples of how professional excellence can create lasting impact beyond individual careers. For UMaT, such recognition also serves to inspire current students and signal the calibre of leadership the university seeks to cultivate.
