Wizkid outscores Davido as 2025’s most streamed African album

Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid has jabbed at fellow artist Davido after his album Morayo topped Apple Music’s 2025 most‑streamed list for Sub‑Saharan Africa.

The streaming platform ranked Morayo as the number‑one album, edging out Davido’s 5ive, which placed second. Apple Music data shows the two projects dominated the region’s charts throughout the year.

Before his own release, Davido boasted, “Album go swallow album,” a statement many interpreted as a shade aimed at Wizkid, who was also planning an album launch.

Following the chart victory, Wizkid tweeted, “Dem say album go swallow album dem dey ground dey smell now,” directly referencing Davido’s earlier claim. The post quickly trended across Nigerian and Ghanaian social‑media circles.

Fans in Accra and Kumasi have erupted with comments, some fearing the exchange could reignite the well‑known rivalry between the two Afrobeats giants. One Ghanaian listener wrote, “We love both artists, but the banter keeps the music scene exciting,” while another warned, “Let’s keep it friendly for the sake of African music.”

As of now, Davido has not responded to Wizkid’s tweet, leaving the conversation open. Industry insiders suggest a possible follow‑up — either a playful rebuttal or a collaborative announcement to pacify fans.

The streaming win underscores the growing influence of African music on global platforms, with Ghanaian audiences contributing significantly to the numbers. Analysts note that Apple Music’s regional rankings reflect a broader shift toward digital consumption, benefitting artists across West Africa.
