Sports presenter Sokoban Fatilow mobilised hundreds of residents in the Sokoban township for a 10km fitness walk and free medical screening on Saturday, showcasing how sports can drive community development.
Speaking at the event, Fatilow said, “As a sports broadcaster, I believe sports go beyond commentary; it is about driving impact, empowering lives, and ensuring our people stay strong and healthy.”
The walk, which started from Sokoban and looped to the Ahodwo Roundabout before returning, attracted participants of all ages and was followed by complimentary health checks, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body‑mass‑index and general medical consultations.
Community leaders praised the initiative, noting its role in promoting wellness and social cohesion. Residents highlighted Fatilow’s credibility and long‑standing presence in the area as key factors that rallied the community.
With lifestyle‑related illnesses on the rise in Ghana, the event provided timely health education and a practical fitness opportunity. Stakeholders also underscored the influence media personalities can wield in encouraging positive behavioural change beyond the broadcast studio.
Organisers expect the fitness walk to become an annual event, inspiring other local figures to champion health and wellness programmes across the country.
“This is more than a walk; it’s a step toward building healthier, more informed communities,” Fatilow added, reaffirming his commitment to sustain the initiative.
