Kwame Danso Youth Leaders Denounce Attack on Court and Police Station

Local News

Community leaders in Kwame Danso, Bono East Region, have publicly condemned and apologized for a recent attack on the district court and police station.

The attack by unidentified individuals, claiming to be youth from the area, led to the immediate closure of both institutions, causing fear and anxiety among residents.

Alfred Myanko, Vice-Chairman of the Kwame Danso Concerned Members, speaking at a press conference organized by the Dwan Youth Association, expressed deep regret on behalf of the entire community.

“We condemn the action of the perpetrators in no uncertain terms,” Mr Myanko stated. “We see this as an act of hooliganism and a flagrant disregard for the rule of law.”

The community leaders were visibly distressed that Kwame Danso had garnered national attention for negative reasons. “We were completely taken aback when news of our district occupied the headlines for the wrong reasons,” Mr Myanko added.

The press conference served as a platform to denounce the violence, appeal to the Judicial Service and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to reconsider the closures, and to advocate for a dialogue to address the underlying issues.

Mr Myanko warned that the absence of the court and police station is already creating a security vacuum. “Barely 24 hours after the closure, people are now beginning to live in fear and panic because some may take the law into their own hands,” he explained.

He affirmed the community’s commitment to cooperating with security agencies to ensure those responsible are brought to justice and peace is restored. “In unity, in humanity, and with a sincere desire to move forward, we say we are sorry,” Mr Myanko said.

The leaders intend to formally engage with the Judicial Service and the IGP to discuss the reopening of the vital institutions.

Owusu Danquah Acheampong, also a member of the group, highlighted the potential for increased crime. “The absence of the police in the area will increase insecurity, with armed robbery cases already on the rise due to the inadequate police presence in the District,” he emphasized.

The community’s appeal underscores the importance of these institutions in maintaining law and order, particularly in remote areas, and their desire for a peaceful resolution to the situation.
