The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has inaugurated a new Governing Board for the National Sports Authority (NSA), appointing Dr. Fred Awaah as its Chairperson.

The ceremony, held in Accra, saw Minister Adams, who assumed office in February, task the board with implementing significant reforms and driving performance improvements throughout Ghana’s sporting landscape. He expressed strong belief in the board’s ability to deliver on these expectations.

According to the Minister, the NSA must adapt to evolving demands concerning infrastructure upkeep, athlete wellbeing, and the fostering of grassroots sports. He also highlighted the need for increased private sector involvement and the adoption of digital governance systems.

“This Board is not here merely to satisfy a legal requirement,” Mr. Adams stated emphatically. “It is here to lead structural change and reposition the NSA as a performance-based institution that commands respect, delivers results and responds to the realities of a dynamic global sports industry.”

Mr. Adams further stressed the importance of revising the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934), swiftly implementing the National Sports Policy, and embracing a unified approach that prioritizes commercialization, gender and disability inclusion, data protection, and international collaborations.

While pledging the Ministry’s complete backing, he was firm on accountability, reminding board members of the need for collaborative efforts and demonstrable achievements. “As Minister, I will engage and listen — but I will also demand results,” he added.

The formation of the board follows Cabinet approval of nominees as stipulated in Section 4 of Act 934, which mandates a Governing Board to oversee the NSA’s operations and ensure efficiency.
