England to Face Uruguay and Japan in March Friendlies

International

England’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup gain momentum with confirmed friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley Stadium in March.

The Three Lions will first face Uruguay on Friday, March 27, followed by a clash with Japan on Tuesday, March 31. Head Coach Thomas Tuchel is expected to announce his final squad for the tournament in May.

“We are really pleased to have these two fixtures confirmed as our World Cup year takes shape,” Tuchel stated. “We wanted to play two teams ranked in the top 20 in the world, but also to test ourselves against opponents from outside of Europe.”

Both Uruguay, currently 16th in the FIFA men’s rankings, and Japan, ranked 18th, have already secured their places at the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19.

England has been drawn into Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Tuchel’s side is scheduled to play two warm-up matches in the United States before the tournament begins.

All three of England’s group stage matches will be held in the US. They will begin their campaign against Croatia on June 17, followed by a crucial encounter with Ghana on June 23, with both matches kicking off at 21:00 BST. Their final group game against Panama is set for June 27, commencing at 22:00 BST.
