Economic Fighters League Supports Unemployed Nurses and Teachers

The Economic Fighters League (EFL) has thrown its weight behind thousands of trained nurses and teachers currently facing unemployment despite critical staff shortages in Ghana’s healthcare and education sectors.

The League, in a statement released on Thursday, December 11, strongly condemned the government’s failure to post these qualified professionals, describing the situation as a deliberate act of neglect.

According to the EFL, this isn’t simply an oversight but a consequence of a political system that prioritizes propaganda over effective national planning and disregards the potential of its youth. “This is not an accident, it is the result of a political class that has abandoned the youth, reduced national planning to propaganda, and treats human potential as disposable,” the statement read.

The EFL further criticized the Ghana Police Service for its recent actions against protesting nurses and teachers. The scheduled demonstration by the Unemployed Graduate Nurses and Midwives was abruptly cancelled via text message, while the Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers reported their notice for a demonstration was ignored, with police officials claiming they hadn’t even reviewed it.

The League decried this as a “deliberate obstruction of constitutional rights,” arguing that such actions undermine the foundations of democracy and human rights. They emphasized that these professionals are rightfully demanding employment after years of dedicated study and sacrifice, not seeking handouts.

“Ghana cannot claim to value education while its teachers remain unemployed, nor can the country claim to value healthcare while nurses are left to struggle,” the EFL asserted. They warned that suppressing the voices of these trained professionals casts doubt on Ghana’s commitment to democratic principles.

In a message of solidarity, the Economic Fighters League declared to those affected, “You are not alone. Your fight is just.” The League pledged continued support until the postings are finalized and the dignity of these professionals is restored.

“To our comrades in this struggle, you are not alone. Your fight is just. Fighters stands firmly beside you until the posting is done and dignity restored,” the statement concluded.
