Funeral Plans for Daddy Lumba Halt as Court Issues Injunction

Preparations for the funeral of Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known as Daddy Lumba, have hit a snag following an injunction secured by his maternal family. The Accra High Court has ordered a halt to the burial arrangements.

The injunction was served as work progressed at the Heroes Park in Kumasi, near the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where the funeral was slated for tomorrow, Friday, December 13. This development has sparked disappointment among many fans who had gathered to witness the ongoing preparations.

Despite the legal challenge, workers were seen continuing with the erection of canopies, stages, and seating structures. Reactions from fans have been divided; some welcome the injunction, believing it will ensure a well-organized and dignified farewell, while others are adamant the funeral proceed as planned.

The late musician’s family had already begun preparations late Thursday night, hoping to complete the setup by Friday evening. The family head, Kofi Owusu, had extended a public invitation via a viral video inviting sympathizers to join the ceremony scheduled for Saturday.

However, the maternal family’s legal action restrains the first respondent from organizing the funeral and prevents the release of Daddy Lumba’s body pending the determination of the substantive case. The basis of their concerns remains unclear at this time.

“We were shocked to hear about the injunction,” said Ama Serwaa, a fan who travelled from Accra. “Daddy Lumba deserves a grand send-off, but it seems family disagreements are getting in the way.”

The situation remains fluid, with admirers and family members anxiously awaiting further developments. GhSpeaks.com will continue to provide updates as the case unfolds.
