Chief Justice Orders Kwame Danso Court Closure Amid Violence

The Kwame Danso District Court in the Bono East Region has been temporarily closed following a violent mob attack on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. The directive, issued by the Chief Justice on Friday, December 12, aims to ensure the safety of judicial staff and ongoing investigations.

The attack, which also targeted the Kwame Danso Police Headquarters, saw a group of approximately 100 youths storm the court, vandalise property, and forcibly release two individuals who were standing trial. The complainant in the case was also reportedly assaulted during the unrest.

Confirming the closure, the Judicial Service stated in a formal communication to the Bono East Regional Administrative Officer: “Following the occurrences at the Kwame Danso District Court, I have been directed by His Lordship the Chief Justice to request you to close the Court temporarily from today, 12 December 2025, until further notice.”

Authorities have taken swift action to restore order. The Ghana Police Service deployed reinforcement teams from the Atebubu Division and the Formed Police Units (FPUs) to the area. Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police ordered the closure of the Kwame Danso Police Station and the reassignment of personnel.

“Please treat this directive as urgent,” the Judicial Service emphasised, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The closure of the court is a precautionary measure to allow investigations to proceed without further endangering staff or the public.

The Bono East Regional Police Command has assured the public that they are committed to bringing those responsible to justice. “Perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and made to face the full consequences of the law,” stated ASP/Mr Appiah Danquah, Acting Public Relations Officer.

The temporary closure is expected to facilitate a thorough investigation and ensure a safe environment for judicial proceedings to resume in the future.
