CEOs Boost Organizational Productivity Through Effective Leadership

Ghanaian Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) are being urged to prioritize building efficient systems and fostering a culture of smart work to enhance productivity within their organizations. Experts say focusing on eliminating waste, leveraging technology, and supporting employee well-being are crucial for delivering greater value.

Rather than simply demanding longer hours, the call is for leaders to create environments where teams can operate with less friction and achieve more impactful results. This involves a strategic shift towards optimizing processes and empowering employees.

De-Graft Egyir, CEO advisor and Founding CEO of Chief Executives Network Ghana, emphasized the importance of a holistic approach. “Productivity isn’t just about pushing people harder; it’s about creating the conditions for them to thrive and deliver their best work,” he stated.

Key strategies to boost productivity include eliminating repetitive, low-value tasks – often referred to as operational waste – and adopting standardized productivity tools to improve collaboration and workflow. Setting clear priorities is also vital, ensuring teams concentrate on activities that directly contribute to the company’s objectives.

Furthermore, promoting accountability through trackable goals and deliverables, and prioritizing employee well-being are seen as essential components of a high-performing organization. A healthy and motivated workforce is invariably a more productive one.

To drive these changes, CEOs are advised to lead quarterly productivity audits to identify areas for improvement. Aligning incentives with high-impact outcomes will also encourage employees to focus on what matters most. Crucially, leaders should model effective time and priority management themselves.

“CEOs must walk the talk,” Egyir added. “If they want their teams to work smarter, they need to demonstrate those behaviors themselves.”

As an actionable first step, businesses are encouraged to identify one process currently causing delays and immediately assign a team to streamline it. This focused approach can yield quick wins and build momentum for broader productivity improvements.

Ultimately, increased productivity translates to stronger financial performance, faster execution of projects, and improved employee morale – all critical for success in Ghana’s competitive business landscape.
