Ashanti Police Deploy 1,000 Officers for Holiday Security

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has deployed over 1,000 officers across the region as part of a major security operation to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.

The increased police presence aims to deter criminal activity, manage traffic flow during the busy holiday period, and provide a rapid response to emergencies, according to Regional Police Commander DCOP Osei Akoto Arthur.

“We are on the ground to ensure the free flow of vehicles and to deter criminals who often exploit crowded markets and festive gatherings,” DCOP Arthur stated at a press briefing held at the Regional Headquarters. “Our presence is meant to reassure residents and visitors that we are ready to act.”

The commander urged the public to be vigilant, advising them to avoid poorly lit or isolated areas, especially at night, and to remain alert when navigating busy shopping centres. He stressed the importance of public cooperation in the success of the operation.

“We urge all Ghanaians to take these precautions seriously,” he noted. “By working together, we can make this festive season peaceful for everyone.”

Police will be highly visible at shopping malls, transportation hubs, and major events. Additional patrols and temporary checkpoints have been established in areas identified as high-risk to intercept illegal firearms, stolen goods, and suspicious individuals.

Officers have been instructed to conduct random spot checks and actively engage with community members to gather intelligence and address any concerns. The Command is also appealing to citizens to promptly report any suspicious activity.

“Your vigilance helps us act faster and prevents crime before it happens,” DCOP Arthur added. The police are committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all during the festive season.
