Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito apologised to supporters on Sunday after his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hohoe United in the Ghana Premier League.
The loss extended Kotoko’s winless run to four matches and saw the club slip to fifth place with twenty‑one points, five points behind league leaders Medeama SC.
Speaking moments after the final whistle, Zito said, “I know my supporters will be disappointed, but I stand on behalf of my team to apologise to them.” He added, “We ask you to keep believing in us until the title race is concluded. It is not yet over.”
Despite the setback, the coach emphasized that the team remains focused on climbing the table. “They should still have faith in us; the season is far from finished,” Zito asserted.
Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most decorated clubs, have not lifted the league trophy since Prosper Narteh Ogum guided them to the title in 2022.
The defeat highlights the growing competitiveness of the league, with newly promoted Hohoe United securing a vital three points at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
Analysts note that Kotoko’s recent form could be linked to defensive frailties and inconsistent attacking output, issues the coaching staff must address ahead of the upcoming fixtures.
Fans are expected to turn up in force for the next home match as the club aims to halt the slide and re‑ignite its title ambitions.
