The Ghana Police Service rescued a kidnap victim in Wapuli, Yendi Division, on December 5, 2025, after an intelligence‑led operation that began after a ransom demand of GH₵100,000 was reported.
According to a Northern Regional situation report, the kidnapping was first reported to the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) on December 2, 2025, at about 9:30 a.m. The abductors demanded GH₵100,000 from the victim’s family for his release.
Northern Regional Commander DCOP Wisdom Lavoe immediately dispatched a five‑member intelligence team from Tamale RPID to Wapuli for surveillance and rescue. The team successfully recovered the victim on December 5, 2025.
In the early hours of December 6, around 12:30 a.m., police engaged the suspects in a gun battle. The suspects fled, abandoning a motorbike registered M 25 NR and a Samsung mobile phone, both seized as exhibits.
Later that morning, officers arrested three suspects at Bokpaba along the Bimbila‑Yendi road. The apprehended men have been identified as Haruna Seidu, thirty‑one; Amidu Bandi, thirty; and Osman Bandi, forty.
Police also recovered GH₵70,000, believed to be part of the ransom, together with two additional motorbikes. One suspect remains at large and is being actively pursued.
“Our swift intelligence work and coordinated response saved a life and sent a clear message to criminal elements,” DCOP Lavoe said.
The Ghana Police Service urges the public to report any suspicious activity related to kidnappings, assuring that investigations will continue until all perpetrators are brought to justice.
