Prince Adu‑Owusu on Finding Love Again After Loss

When promises of forever turn into silence, many Ghanaians find themselves wrestling with unanswered questions about love, loyalty and self‑worth.

Relationship counsellors say that the intensity of early romance often masks the practical work needed to sustain a partnership. In Accra and Kumasi, couples report feeling “drained” when communication fades and one partner ceases to invest emotionally.

“A promise of lifelong commitment carries weight,” explains Dr. Ama Mensah, a Ghanaian family therapist. “When that promise is left hanging, it creates a vacuum that can feel louder than any argument.”

Many individuals admit they continue to give time, affection and honesty despite receiving little in return. They wonder why the imbalance persists and why their partners avoid honest conversation.

Experts note that cultural expectations around marriage and courtship can pressure couples to stay silent rather than address problems. “In our society, saying ‘I love you’ is often seen as a step toward marriage, so ending a relationship may be perceived as failure,” Dr. Mensah adds.

Psychologists recommend that couples practice open dialogue early on, setting realistic expectations about loyalty, respect and consistency. They advise that both parties should assess whether they are ready to honour the promises they make.

If you find yourself feeling unheard, professionals suggest seeking mediation from trusted elders or professional counsellors before the silence becomes a permanent barrier.

Ultimately, rebuilding trust starts with honest communication, mutual respect and a shared commitment to protect love from becoming disposable.
