Ghana wrapped up a historic campaign at the inaugural West African Para Games in Abeokuta on December three, clinching forty medals – four gold, fifteen silver and twenty‑one bronze – to finish second behind hosts Nigeria.

More than sixty para athletes represented the nation across nine disciplines, including para athletics, para powerlifting, para table tennis, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, wheelchair tennis, para armwrestling, para shooting and para badminton.

Para armwrestling delivered the biggest gold haul, with Tahiru Haruna securing two gold medals while teammates Frank Fudzi and Isaac Nii Ayitey added bronze medals.

Emmanuel Amobire also stood out, winning gold in the rifle event for para shooting, a triumph he described as “a testament to hard work and support from the federation”, the Ghana Paralympic Committee said.

In sitting volleyball, the Ghanaian team made history by taking bronze in their debut international appearance, a result the team’s coach hailed as “a breakthrough for the sport in our country”.

Para table tennis contributed two bronze medals through the duo Abdul Aziz Abbey and Isaac Ampofo, while para athletics produced several podium finishes, with Addai Hayford, veteran Botsyo Nkegbe and others adding to the tally.

Para swimming was cancelled due to logistical challenges and Ghana did not field a side in amputee football, but the overall performance underscored the growing depth of para sport in the nation.

The six‑day event concluded on December three, leaving Ghana with a strong second‑place finish and a blueprint for future success at upcoming continental and global para competitions.
