Finance Minister Pushes for Tougher Tax Collection Efforts

Politics

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has charged tax officials to proactively pursue revenue collection, moving beyond reliance on taxpayer office visits.

Speaking during an engagement with staff at the Legon Tax Service Centre, Dr. Forson emphasised the need for a shift in strategy to bolster domestic revenue.

“Revenue must not depend on waiting for taxpayers to walk into our offices,” he stated. He further urged the officers to take the initiative in ensuring compliance, adding, “We must go out, engage, enforce compliance, and collect what is due to the state.”

Dr. Forson tasked the officials with fully embracing their revenue targets and diligently working to expand the tax base. He stressed that robust domestic revenue mobilization is fundamental for Ghana’s progress.

“Ghana needs the revenue, and the work you do is critical to funding public services and driving national development,” the Minister explained.

He expressed optimism that improved revenue outcomes are within reach, asserting, “with focus, discipline, and commitment, we can mobilise the resources required to support growth, deliver essential services, and secure a stronger future for our country.”
