Afoko is NPP's only unifier – Addai Nimo

Former Asante Mampong Member of Parliament and two-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Ing. Addai Nimo, has declared that Mr. Awentami Paul Afoko is the unifying candidate the party desperately needs in its quest to rebuild after electoral setbacks.

Speaking to NPP delegates in the Upper West Region, the seasoned politician emphasized that Afoko, having endured turbulent times within the party, possesses the unique ability to win back disaffected members who have drifted away from the party fold.

“If we give him the mandate, he can go to those our brothers and sisters who are aggrieved and they are sitting somewhere and then he will go and tell them when I went back and told my story to the party they have renewed my mandate for me so all of you come and let’s go won’t they listen?”, Mr. Addai Nimo asserted, framing Afoko’s potential return as a unifying narrative.

He stressed that the NPP’s challenges stem not from external opposition by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but from deep-seated internal fractures within the party itself.

“The problem is not NDC, the problem is we the internal people. We have not treated ourselves well,” he declared, calling for internal reconciliation as a prerequisite for electoral success.

The former lawmaker dismissed notions that Afoko’s return is negotiable, insisting that the veteran politician possesses the requisite qualities to reclaim parliamentary seats lost by the NPP in certain regions where the party currently holds zero representation.

“He is more than capable of reorganizing the party for effectiveness and efficiency. At this crucial moment when we have no seats in some regions of the country we need an amazing person to occupy the position. We have 4 regions with 53 seats and the NPP has none. We need capable hand to salvage the party,” he stated emphatically.

Mr. Afoko has been touring constituencies nationwide with a message centered on reuniting, rebuilding, and returning the NPP to power under what he terms the 3Rs Agenda — a comprehensive strategy focused on restoring party unity, rebuilding structures, and recapturing political power.

Central to his platform is a commitment to grassroots empowerment, advocating for greater authority and respect to be afforded to polling station executives, constituency executives, and the rank-and-file members who form the bedrock of the party.

He further promised improved welfare packages, enhanced logistical support, and greater inclusion in party decision-making processes, positioning himself as the leader capable of revitalizing the NPP’s foundation following its 2024 electoral loss.

Analysts suggest that Afoko’s emphasis on internal healing and grassroots engagement could address critical weaknesses that have hindered the NPP’s performance in recent elections, particularly its struggle to maintain cohesion between leadership and the party base.

His call for introspection and unity comes at a pivotal moment for the NPP as it seeks to reconfigure its strategy ahead of future electoral contests, with many viewing internal reconciliation as an essential step toward regaining competitiveness.
