Ministry probes claim 17 officers assaulted Sammy Darki

The Ministry of the Interior has launched a full investigation after the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko, claimed he was handcuffed and beaten by seventeen police officers on live television.

Darko made the allegation during an appearance on JoyNews’ current‑affairs programme Newsfile on 6 December, stating that police officers restrained and assaulted him while he was being interviewed.

In the same interview, he also alleged that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts while performing his duties.

The Ministry of the Interior issued a statement on 8 December warning that, if proven, the claims could undermine the safety of anti‑corruption officials and erode public confidence in security agencies.

According to the ministry, preliminary discussions with Mr Agyebeng suggest the alleged attempts occurred before 2025, yet no formal complaints or police records of threats have been filed.

Minister for the Interior Antwi Boahen Kyeremanteng said, “We have ordered two separate investigations – one into the alleged assassination attempts on Mr Agyebeng and another into Mr Darko’s claim of unlawful restraint and assault by police officers. Crime does not expire, and we will ensure a thorough and impartial examination.”

The ministry reiterated its commitment to protect the lives and property of all Ghanaians, emphasizing that every citizen must be able to carry out lawful duties without fear, intimidation or threats.

Updates will be provided as the investigations progress, and any further action will be taken based on the findings.
