The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) defended its handling of the former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) CEO case on Dec 8, 2025, after journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni criticised the slow pace.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the OSP said the trial remains ongoing and a motion to call an additional witness is pending. The next hearing is set for Jan 20, 2026.
The office stressed that it has dutifully pursued the case since the current Special Prosecutor took office and that a recent internal review redirected the proceedings.
Awuni, whose 2019 documentary “Contracts for Sale” sparked the investigation, told the Joy Super Morning Show on Dec 8 that “the way this is being handled, eventually it is becoming a foolish case.” He added he could not give timelines for the investigation’s completion.
In a separate statement, Awuni said he withdrew as a prosecution witness after believing the OSP was not committed to securing justice. He recounted being notified on Oct 8, 2025 of another court date on Oct 20, and testified from Dec 2022 to Apr 2024.
Awuni claimed the OSP dropped all seventeen charges against former PPA CEO A.B. Adjei and one charge against his brother‑in‑law Francis Arhin, only to file eight fresh charges in May 2024. “The case, which had been in court for two years, had to start from scratch,” he warned.
Responding to the criticism, the OSP said, “The OSP has acted and will continue to act in the best interest of the Republic,” reaffirming its commitment to seeing the trial through despite public doubts.
The saga underscores the challenges facing Ghana’s anti‑corruption institutions and raises questions about procedural efficiency in high‑profile prosecutions.
