Nigerian singer and producer, Young John, has urged critics to refrain from dismissing his musical efforts, emphasizing the years of dedication he’s invested in his craft.
The appeal comes after Young John faced backlash from some fans who labelled his recent work as repetitive. Responding to the criticism, the artist asked those who dislike his music to simply not listen, rather than belittling his journey.
“If you’re not a fan of my work, leave it at that. Don’t come here and water down my years of hard work,” he posted on his X account.
Young John initially rose to prominence as a producer in 2010, becoming a key figure within Olamide’s YBNL crew. He transitioned to a singing career after signing with Chocolate City Records in 2022.
His debut single, ‘Dada’, quickly gained traction, and a subsequent remix featuring Davido further amplified his popularity as a performing artist.
The producer-turned-singer’s comments have sparked debate amongst fans, with some supporting his right to artistic expression and others maintaining their critique of his recent sound.
