Accra – Woodin and Cacao, a rising sustainable fashion label, have joined forces to launch a limited-edition ready-to-wear collection, marking a significant step towards eco-innovation in African style.

The collaboration, unveiled in Accra, seamlessly blends Woodin’s iconic and celebrated prints with Cacao’s contemporary design aesthetic. The result is a youthful and versatile line designed to redefine modern African fashion.

Founded just a year ago, Cacao has quickly established itself as a frontrunner in sustainable fashion practices. The brand champions environmental responsibility by repurposing off-cuts from Ghana’s bustling sewing industry, upcycling waste materials sourced from local communities, and prioritizing the use of environmentally friendly fabrics.

For Kwaku Bediako Oduru, founder of Cacao, the partnership with Woodin represents more than just a commercial venture; it’s a powerful cultural statement.

“The future of this collaboration is not just with clothes, but version two will be looking at other facets of products, such as furniture, art pieces, and also stage two of how we can reimagine or we can consistently reimagine how clothes could be,” Mr Bediako explained, expressing optimism about the project’s long-term potential.

Cacao’s innovative approach hasn’t gone unnoticed internationally. The brand holds the distinction of being the first African label licensed by the NBA for the Basketball Africa League and has been featured on the BBC World Service’s flagship podcast, highlighting its unique contribution to fashion and identity.

The Woodin x Cacao line offers a range of pieces suitable for both leisure and smart-casual occasions. It showcases Woodin’s signature textiles, including the renowned Bogolan print, reimagined through Cacao’s minimalist and trend-driven cuts.

According to Georgina Mensah, Head of Marketing at TexStyles Ghana Ltd., the collection demonstrates Woodin’s commitment to sustainability while simultaneously appealing to a younger demographic seeking bold and conscious fashion choices.

“This is just a maiden edition, and so we’re definitely planning to roll out more editions after this,” she added.

Ms. Mensah further noted, “It’s a really limited edition in our shops as well. So the outfits are in different styles for leisure. It’s casual, where we have jackets, we have skirts, we have shorts, and long-sleeve shirts. And you can eventually wear them anywhere, for any occasion.”

Through this collaboration, Woodin and Cacao aim to broaden the appeal of African print fashion, inspire new creative avenues, and encourage consumers to embrace a more sustainable approach to style.
