Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has advocated for increased professionalism, sustainable investment, and a strategic approach to showcasing African stories to enhance the continent’s film industry’s global competitiveness.
Speaking at the inaugural Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) 2025 in Accra, the Vice President emphasized the need for African narratives to be delivered with “purpose and excellence” to achieve international resonance while preserving cultural authenticity.
She challenged filmmakers to prioritize depth and quality in their work, asserting that “our stories are rich, authentic, and powerful.”
“But they must be told with the excellence they deserve if we are to claim our rightful place in the global film industry,” she stated.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also urged investors and stakeholders to adopt a long-term perspective on film industry investments, highlighting its potential to create jobs, bolster cultural diplomacy, and significantly contribute to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
REFFA 2025 served as a platform for African creatives, featuring film screenings, masterclasses, panel discussions, and networking sessions with international film industry professionals.
