Three Arrested for Impersonating Top Officials Online

Three individuals have been apprehended for allegedly impersonating high-ranking officials, including the Speaker of Parliament and the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The arrests were made by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.

The suspects – Gideon Awudi, 25, Edem Soku, 33, and Judith Soku, 31 – are accused of creating fake social media profiles to deceive and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

According to a police report, the trio engaged in a range of fraudulent activities, including mobile money fraud, credit card scams, airtime sale fraud, and online sales deception across various social media platforms. These activities reportedly spanned several months.

The suspects were arrested following a sustained intelligence-led operation in the Sogakope, Dzodze, and Penyi areas of the Volta Region. Police teams located and apprehended them in Sogakope and Dabala.

They are currently in custody and assisting with investigations, police sources have confirmed. Authorities are working to determine the full extent of their operations and identify any potential victims.

The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team is urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious online activity. “We are committed to protecting Ghanaians from cybercrime and will continue to pursue those who engage in these illegal activities,” a police spokesperson stated.
