All Blacks Defeat Kotoko in Swedru GPL Clash

Sports

Swedru All Blacks produced one of their finest displays of the season to claim a 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko in an absorbing Ghana Premier League encounter on Sunday at the Swedru Sports Stadium.

Kotoko arrived in Swedru on the back of a three-match winning run, but they were met by a fearless All Blacks side that matched them for intensity and belief from the opening minutes. The hosts looked sharp and organised, refusing to be overawed by their more fancied opponents.

Defender Roland Leveh opened the scoring in the 37th minute, rewarding All Blacks for their positive approach. Kotoko responded through Guinean striker Morifing Donzo, who restored parity and briefly swung momentum back in favour of the visitors. However, Swedru regained control and struck again in added time of the first half, with Rudolf Mensah finishing calmly to send the home crowd into celebration.

The match was played at a high tempo, with All Blacks edging possession at 52 percent and registering 12 shots, 10 of them on target. Kotoko managed 10 attempts, with five on target, but struggled to impose themselves for long spells.

There were reports of off-field incidents involving supporters before kick-off, though the game itself remained competitive and decisive on the pitch.

The defeat leaves Kotoko third on the table, four points off the top, missing a chance to close the gap. They will seek a response against Berekum Chelsea next. For Swedru All Blacks, the win eases pressure on their Egyptian coach and could mark a turning point in their season.
