In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, Star Assurance Limited, commemorating its 40th anniversary, joined forces with HOPE for Little Lives to bring critical healthcare and support to hundreds of children and families in Sekyere Kumawu. The collaborative effort delivered life-altering pediatric surgeries, comprehensive health screenings, and essential resources, vividly demonstrating Star Assurance’s unwavering commitment to positively impacting the lives of Ghanaians. The initiative highlights the profound difference companies can make when they prioritize community well-being.
The partnership’s centerpiece was a series of free pediatric surgeries performed at the Sekyere Kumawu District Hospital. Volunteer surgeons provided by HOPE for Little Lives successfully completed 40 operations, addressing a range of medical conditions affecting young children in the region. Dr. Maame Tekyiwa Botchway, Founder and Executive Director of HOPE for Little Lives, expressed her organization’s mission to ensure all children have the opportunity to live healthy and fulfilling lives. She detailed the variety of cases treated. “We operated on 20 children, with two different conditions, some had umbilical hernia, Inguinal hernia. The next day, we continued with the operations where we operated on 16 children with different pathologies, some also had more than one pathology, with others having their operations on the final day”, said Dr. Botchway.
Beyond surgical interventions, the outreach extended to broader healthcare and well-being initiatives. A total of 700 children received thorough health screenings, allowing for early detection and intervention for potential health issues. Additionally, 380 children were provided with deworming medication, addressing a common health concern in the area. The holistic approach aimed to improve the overall health and quality of life for the children of Sekyere Kumawu.
The initiative also recognized the importance of basic necessities in supporting children’s well-being. Approximately 700 items of clothing were distributed, along with 1,800 packs of food, drinks, and snacks. These provisions offered immediate relief and support to families, easing some of the burdens they face in providing for their children’s needs. Star Assurance’s involvement went beyond just medical care, addressing the daily needs of the community.
Understanding the importance of hygiene and self-care, Star Assurance extended its support to the Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School, donating 400 personal grooming kits to the students. This contribution aimed to promote good hygiene practices and self-esteem among the youth, fostering a sense of well-being that extends beyond immediate medical needs. The company’s vision encompasses the overall health and development of the community’s youth.
Justice Frank Offei, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Star Assurance Limited, articulated the company’s deep-seated commitment to making a tangible difference in people’s lives. “We are here to join HOPE for Little Lives on their Easter outreach.
