Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans reaffirmed its pledge to foster clean, green and sustainable learning environments in Ghanaian basic schools during the 2025 Jan Binder Awards held in the Ashanti Region.

The ceremony, organized in partnership with Opportunity International Germany, recognized schools that excel in maintaining tidy classrooms, proper waste disposal, hygienic toilets, hand‑washing stations and verdant school compounds.

Peaceland School clinched the top honour as “Most Clean and Green School”, while Huggy Royal School and Bright Beginning School placed second and third respectively. The winners received cash prizes of GH₵18,000, GH₵14,400 and GH₵9,600, together with certificates and plaques.

“Maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment in schools is a critical step toward broader climate sustainability,” Joyce Owusu‑Dabo, Chief Programs Officer of Sinapi Aba, said, urging schools to embed daily eco‑friendly practices.

Lydia Asante Frimpong, Educational Coordinator for Private Schools in the Atwima Nwabiagya District, noted that early exposure to such standards “instills environmental consciousness in children, preparing them to contribute to a sustainable future.”

Accepting the top award, Mr Evans Nkrumah, proprietor of Peaceland School, expressed gratitude to Sinapi Aba, adding that the recognition would motivate his school and others to expand their green initiatives.

The Jan Binder Awards honour the legacy of the late German environmental advocate Jan Binder. His mother, Martha Binder, sustains the programme through an annual fundraising cycling tour, turning personal tribute into lasting environmental stewardship for Ghanaian schools.

Now in its second decade, the Jan Binder Awards continue to inspire basic schools across the country to prioritise cleanliness, sustainability and eco‑friendly practices, contributing to Ghana’s broader climate goals.
