Shamamanhene Joins Western Regional House of Chiefs

The newly inducted Shamamanhene, Osagyefo Kwaw Frieku IV, has appealed for peace and unity within the Shama Traditional Area, emphasizing its crucial role in fostering development and progress.

Osagyefo Kwaw Frieku IV made the call during his official induction as the Omanhene of Shama by the Western Regional House of Chiefs, presided over by its President, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Chief of Essikado.

The Shamamanhene cautioned that persistent conflicts and chieftaincy disputes pose a significant threat to the development of Shama, urging all parties to prioritize collaboration and the collective growth of the area. “Continued internal strife will only hold us back from achieving our full potential,” he stated.

The well-attended induction ceremony saw the presence of several distinguished paramount chiefs, including Awuli Atribrukusu II, Chief of Lower Axim, and Awuli Agyenfi Kwame II, Chief of Nsien, alongside other members of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.

The formal recognition of Osagyefo Kwaw Frieku IV marks the end of a long-standing chieftaincy dispute that has previously destabilized the Shama Traditional Area.

Addressing the media after the ceremony, Osagyefo Kwaw Frieku IV reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership, calling on all residents to unite peacefully and drive development in the Shama District.

Awulae Agyenfi Kwame II, the Nsienmanhene, offered advice to the newly gazetted chief, urging him to uphold the traditions of the stool and demonstrate respect towards the elders and people of Shama. “Upholding our traditions is paramount to maintaining the integrity of the stool,” he said.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V, in his closing remarks, encouraged the people of Shama to offer their full support to their Omanhene and actively participate in initiatives aimed at bringing development to the area. “The progress of Shama depends on the collective effort of its people,” he explained.
