The competition’s core mission is to identify student’s potential while increasing their confidence and knowledge of sanitation, also allowing students to show Ghana’s cultures and traditions. As Face of Lisben, Sedem is now set to become an ambassador for environmental cleanliness.
The Face of Lisben competition, meticulously organized by the Royal Lisben Montessori School, serves as a dynamic platform to harness learners’ potential and to expose them to Ghana’s diverse cultures and practices, while simultaneously building their confidence. The objective is also to prepare learners to address environmental issues and their impact on humanity. The event is marked by a series of key activities, including vibrant cultural performances representing each of Ghana’s sixteen regions, and the presentation of sanitation-related project work.
The cultural showcases, a highlight of the competition, transported the audience through the heart of Ghana’s heritage. Traditional dances echoed the rhythms of the land, while warrior displays exemplified courage and discipline. Reenactments of conflict resolution in chief palaces offered glimpses into the intricate systems of governance, and exhibitions of regional cuisine tantalized taste buds with the diverse flavors of the nation. Sixteen contestants vied for the coveted title, each striving to impress a panel of three discerning judges. The judging criteria encompassed not only the contestants’ performances but also their insightful responses to questions addressing relevant social and environmental issues. The final round saw each contestant present projects focusing on sanitation, healthy living, and related topics, showcasing their dedication to creating a better world. Sedem Awuku Segbedzi-Semekor emerged victorious, achieving the highest scores from all three judges and claiming the title of Face of Lisben 2025. As a reward for her hard work, Sedem will receive two terms of free tuition. Samilia Anzie Quainoo and Adepa Twumwaa Adjei, who placed second and third respectively, will each receive two terms of complimentary meals. Additional awards recognized outstanding achievements in costume design and eloquence.
The judges commended Miss Sedem for her outstanding performance and called upon her to continue advocating for environmental cleanliness, as well as educating her peers about proper sanitation practices in schools. Overcome with gratitude, Sedem expressed her appreciation to the school management for providing her with the opportunity to participate in the competition. “When I am determined to take up a challenge, I always put in my all,” she shared. “I know my colleagues were equally good, so I took every practice and guidance given to me by my trainer very seriously.” Sedem also acknowledged the unwavering support of her family, particularly her father, whose motivation and provision of costumes played a crucial role in her success.
Buoyed by her victory, Sedem now aspires to conquer the national stage at this year’s UCMAS competition, having secured a commendable third place in the previous edition. As Face of Lisben, she will serve as an ambassador for “a clean and healthy environment,” championing the cause of sanitation and environmental protection.
