Sandvik Ghana Ltd. has been recognized as a leading force in the country’s mining sector, securing the 1st Runner-Up position for ‘Best Performer in Mine Supplies and Support Services’ at the 11th Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA).
This achievement marks Sandvik’s inaugural participation and subsequent success in the prestigious awards scheme, signaling a strong start and validating its position among key players in the extractive industry.
The GMIA, organized by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, is renowned as the industry’s gold standard for excellence. The rigorous selection process involves nominations from customers, technical evaluations, and independent verification by PwC, ensuring transparency and credibility.
According to Nuhu Salifu, Vice President of Sandvik Sales Area West Africa, “We are absolutely delighted and deeply honoured by this recognition. To walk away with a top honour in our very first year of participation is a testament to our team’s relentless focus on our core values: Winning Together, Curiosity, Responsibility, and Customer Focus.”
The recognition underlines Sandvik’s shift from merely supplying equipment to functioning as a comprehensive solutions provider. Mr. Salifu further emphasized, “We have never seen ourselves as just suppliers. We are partners in the mining journey. This award fuels our resolve to continue delivering the automation, digitalisation, and safety solutions that are building the future of mining in Ghana.”
Sandvik’s commitment to technological advancement, including the introduction of automation and intelligent fleet management systems, aligns with Ghana’s objectives for a more efficient and responsible mining industry. The company has also achieved an impressive 11 million injury-free man-hours across its West African operations, highlighting its dedication to safety.
Professor Richard Kwasi Amankwah, Chairman of the Adjudicating Board, noted that the awards reinforce the values of transparency, credibility, and professionalism within the sector, adding that the increased number of submissions this year demonstrated the awards’ growing prominence.
“For our technicians, warehouse and administration staff, and engineers, this plaque is a moment of immense pride,” Mr. Salifu stated. “It recognises the countless hours of technical support that ensure our customers’ mines run efficiently, safely, and profitably.”
