Ghana Can Compete with England in 2026 World Cup

Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman believes the Black Stars have a genuine opportunity against England in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L clash.

The highly anticipated match will mark the first competitive meeting between the two nations. Their only prior encounter was a friendly in 2011, which ended in a 1-1 draw with Asamoah Gyan netting the equalizer for Ghana after Andy Carroll had opened the scoring for England.

Speaking on JoyNews, Osman expressed his excitement about the fixture. “I’m quite delighted Ghana gets to play England,” he said. “I cannot believe that this is a match in the making for so many years.”

Osman highlighted the historical connection between the two countries, noting the number of Ghanaian players who have graced English football. “England has been home to a lot of legendary Ghanaian players,” he added. He also believes the Black Stars perform well against teams they perceive as equals. “As Ghanaians, we play very well against teams we think we can be better at.”

Ghana’s World Cup qualifying campaign will begin with a match against Panama on June 17, followed by the crucial encounters against England and Croatia.
