Joy Prime Reflects on 2025's Biggest Moments

Politics

A year of significant legal battles, economic shifts, and a firm stance against environmental degradation is under the microscope today on Joy Prime’s Prime Insight. The special edition, which aired at 7:00 AM this Saturday, December 20, 2025, features a panel of political strategists and legal experts dissecting the key events of 2025.

Hosted by Blessed Sogah, the two-hour broadcast promises a candid review of the year’s headlines, spanning from the contentious Kpandai parliamentary seat dispute to the government’s economic policies.

The panel brings together diverse perspectives, including Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections for the NDC; Awal Mohammed, a Communications Team Member of the NPP; Janet Nabla, Founder of the People’s National Party (PNP); Wayoe Ghanamannti, Esq., a former CPP Running Mate and legal practitioner; and Ivan Kyei Innocent, a Youth Activist known for his criticism of corruption.

A key focus of the discussion is the government’s crackdown on illegal mining, following the maturation of the Environmental Protection Mining in Forest Reserves Revocation Instrument, 2025, on December 10. The revocation effectively dismantled the loopholes in LI 2462, leading to a total ban on mining in forest reserves.

The panel is expected to debate the implications of this ban, particularly the potential for 25-year jail terms for offenders under Act 995. “This is a strong signal that the government is serious about protecting our forest reserves,” stated a source close to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, who wished to remain anonymous.

The recent Supreme Court decision to suspend the Kpandai parliamentary rerun is also on the agenda. Rashid Tanko Computer is anticipated to reiterate his concerns that the suspension is creating confusion among voters. “Ghanaians deserve clarity and a swift resolution to the Kpandai issue,” he said earlier this week.

Conversely, Awal Mohammed is likely to support the ruling, framing it as upholding the rule of law and respecting the 21-day filing window. The program aims to unravel the jurisdictional clash between the High Court and the Supreme Court in this matter.

Finally, the discussion will turn to the 2026 Budget, dubbed ‘Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation.’ A significant aspect of the budget is the planned removal of several taxes, including the E-Levy, the 10% Betting Tax, and the Emissions Levy, set to take effect in January. This follows a year of economic recovery, with GDP growth reaching 6% and inflation dropping to 8% by October.

The question remains: is 2025’s economic performance a sustainable recovery or a temporary stabilization? Prime Insight airs every Saturday morning on Joy Prime (DStv 281, GOtv 124, and Free-to-Air channel 102) and encourages live engagement across social media platforms.
