Mahama Gifts 40 Armoured Vehicles to Ghana Police Service

Politics

President John Mahama handed over forty armoured vehicles to the Ghana Police Service at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, 4 December, boosting the force’s operational capability.

The ceremony, attended by senior police officials and elected representatives, marked the culmination of a procurement drive aimed at enhancing officer safety and response capacity in high‑risk situations.

“These vehicles will significantly enhance our operational capacity and safeguard our officers,” President Mahama said, urging the personnel to handle the machines responsibly.

Inspector‑General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are grateful for this acquisition; it will improve safety for our men and women on duty.”

The addition of fortified transport addresses longstanding concerns over inadequate protection during armed confrontations, a challenge highlighted in recent incidents across the country.

Funding for the fleet was allocated from the national security budget, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernising the police force and reducing response times.
