Pentecost University has called on Ghanaian tertiary institutions to prioritize skills development to better prepare graduates for the demands of a rapidly changing job market. The call came during a well-attended graduation ceremony in Accra where the institution celebrated its Class of 2025.

A total of 1,412 students – both undergraduates and postgraduates – were awarded degrees and certificates at the ceremony held on the university’s Sowutuom campus. This milestone underscores Pentecost University’s commitment to nurturing transformational leaders.

The ceremony was graced by former Chief Justice of the Republic, Georgina Wood, alongside senior university officials, faculty, family, and invited guests.

Acting Vice Chancellor, Apostle Professor Kwabena Agyapong Kodua, emphasized the crucial role of universities in national development. “Universities are change-generating institutions and when well utilised, produce the workforce needed for the design, development, improvement and maintenance of transformed societies,” he stated, advocating for curricula that directly address the skills gap in Ghana.

Prof. Agyapong Kodua highlighted Pentecost University’s unique blend of Christian values and a strategic vision encapsulated in its Phase II A+ Agenda. This agenda focuses on spiritual formation, financial sustainability, academic excellence, and infrastructure development.

“To our Key Officers, Executive Management Team, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Students, thank you all for your sacrifices and commitment. Together, we advance a mission greater than ourselves,” he added, expressing gratitude for the collective effort.

Founded in 2003 and granted a Presidential Charter in 2020, Pentecost University has expanded its academic offerings beyond theology to include programmes in business, engineering, science, technology, and other professional fields.

The Vice Chancellor underscored the institution’s commitment to integrating spiritual depth with academic rigor. “Pentecost University continues to distinguish itself as an institution where academic training is matched with spiritual depth. Daily and weekly staff and student devotions across our campuses… have deepened our Christ-centred identity,” he explained.

He also revealed strategic partnerships with international universities and corporate entities designed to enhance academic quality and provide students with global exposure. These collaborations, spanning institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and beyond, support technician training, language instruction, and specialized degree programmes.

During the ceremony, Prof. Agyapong Kodua announced full accreditation for eight new programmes, including PhD options, a BSc in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE), and an MSc in Intelligent Systems Engineering. “I am happy to announce that we have received full accreditation for eight distinguished programmes…” he said.

The PPE programme, a pioneering interdisciplinary degree in Ghana, reflects the university’s dedication to cultivating critical thinkers and leaders capable of driving societal change.

Pentecost University also boasts impressive professional licensure pass rates, notably a 97% pass rate in Nursing and Midwifery examinations, demonstrating its rising academic standards.

Looking ahead, the university is investing heavily in infrastructure and student support services. Prof. Agyapong Kodua announced ongoing campus improvements and plans for a 2,000-bed hostel and a new campus clinic slated for completion in 2026.

“Major progress has been made on the Pentecost Engineering Village, a bold step toward positioning PU as a leading institution in science, engineering, and technology education in sub Saharan Africa,” he added.

Addressing the graduating class, the Acting Vice Chancellor urged them to embody integrity and humility in their future endeavors. “Dear Graduands, as you step into the world… remember that the world is looking not only for skill but for character. Serve with integrity, lead with humility, innovate with compassion, and uphold the values of Pentecost University: discipline, excellence, godliness, and service.”

Sixty-four students graduated with First Class Honours, a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

Prof. Agyapong Kodua extended his gratitude to Chancellor Apostle Dr. Eric Nyamekye, the University Council, parents, sponsors, faculty, and staff for their unwavering support.

Former Chief Justice Georgina Wood congratulated the graduates and emphasized the importance of ethical leadership in the workplace, echoing the Vice Chancellor’s call for positive change.

Pentecost University is confident that the Class of 2025 is well-equipped to contribute significantly to Ghana’s socio-economic progress. “To the Class of 2025: we are proud of you. Go and shine… God bless you,” Prof. Agyapong Kodua concluded.
